Fierce fighting is underway in Togga Miiraale area in Al-Miskaad mountain range in Bari region. Puntland security forces launched an attack against Daesh remnants and clash ensued between the two sides, resulting in casualties including deaths and injuries. Five Puntland security forces were killed including the son of Puntland’s Defense Forces Commander, General Adan Abdi Hashi. 25 Deash fighters were also killed in the operation.
Airstrikes assisted Puntland Security Forces during anti-terrorism operation against Daesh fighters. The airstrikes were conducted by the UAE drones and targeted Deash hideouts in the mountain range. It is believed that the fighting was the fiercest that occurred ever since Puntland launched anti-terrorism operations which were aimed at flushing out Deash remnants from Puntland territory. The fighting erupted after Puntland security forces got an information in advance that Deash remnants were regrouping in the area.
It is also believed that Togga Miiraale is a base for Deash leaders including Somali and foreigners. Reports further confirm that deputy Deash leader, Mr. Abdirahman Fahiye Isse Mohamud, was stationed in the base. Fahiye is among senior Deash leaders who escaped unharmed in the wake of the recent airstrikes carried out by Int’l Partners in Al-Miskaad Mountain range in Feb.
