ISIS militants hiding in the Calmiskaad mountains of the Bari region attacked the family of a Puntland Defense Force officer in the Kayaxa area, near the village of Sheebaab in the Qandala district.
Siciid Cali Orshe, commander of the Daljir unit of the Puntland Dervish forces, stated that a house—where three young children, their mother, and their elderly grandmother were sleeping—was attacked with gunfire and hand grenades.
While the attack caused no loss of life, it resulted in property damage; the officer responsible for the family arrived at the scene with troops under his command and provided details regarding the incident.
Officials at the site reported that the ISIS militants who carried out the attack fled on foot after Puntland Dervish forces—stationed nearby—arrived at the location.
