Ethiopia has formally admitted on Monday downing a Kenyan cargo plane loaded with humanitarian and medical supplies, killing all six people on board.
In a statement to African Union, the Ethiopian military said they interpreted the plane’s “unusual flight” as a suicide attack.
The Ethiopian military further said the plane was shot down due to lack of communication and added the crew did not inform of the airplane’s flight.
All six passengers on board died on Monday after the plane was shot down in the southern town of Berdale in Somalia.
Kenya was shocked to learn the downing of the plane, saying the plane was loaded with humanitarian aid amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
