Djibouti, Somaliland Agree to Strengthen Security Cooperation

Djibouti and Somaliland agreed to strengthen their security cooperation on Friday in a meeting held by the two countries’ national security heads in Djibouti. The MoU was signed between Somaliland’s Police Chief Brigadier General Mohamed Adan Saqadhi and his Djibouti counterpart. The two sides agreed to combat contraband in the border areas. Djibouti National Police Chief  Abdi Ali Farah and his Somaliland counterpart brigadier general Mohamed Adan Saqadhi discussed the enhancement of security cooperation between the two countries. Abdi Ali Farah said that the discussions focused on boosting security cooperation between the two countries in the areas of cross border crimes and intelligence sharing between the two sides. Djibouti police chief further asserted that the two countries cooperated during the terrorist attacks in Djibouti as people who were in connection with the attack were extradited from Somaliland to Djibouti. Abdi Ali added that the two countries have also agreed to enhance security collaboration as we are brothers as well as neighbors. On his part, Somaliland’s Police Chief said that we are two countries that are neighbors, have same religion and we are brethren. He said that they are committed to cooperate on border security.
