The Somali army, specifically a unit known as Danab, which is specially trained in counterterrorism operations, has carried out a planned security operation in an area known as Far Shabeel, which falls under the jurisdiction of Jilib district in the Middle Jubba region. Officers leading the security operation stated that it had been tactfully organized to target members of the militant group Al-Shabab, who were present in the area. It is reported that the troops have successfully reached their planned target, demolishing positions that Al-Shabab had set up, although the number of casualties has not been officially announced. Additionally, the officers mentioned that the operation was part of consistent efforts to weaken Al-Shabab’s operational capabilities, particularly in these crucial areas in the Middle Jubba region. Danab reiterated that they will continue with planned operations, targeting leaders of the group, in order to diminish the threat posed to national security. On the other hand, the Somali National Army (SNA) carried out landmine clearance operations in Galoolay, which falls under the jurisdiction of Bal’ad district in the Middle Shabelle region. During the landmine clearance operation, the Somali troops successfully removed landmines that the militant group Al-Shabab had planted on the roads, posing a real security threat to the community and vehicles travelling on the roads. The landmine clearance operations were conducted by special units of the Somali troops who are responsible for the prevention and removal of explosive devices planted on the ground. They stated that such operations will continue to ensure the safety and well-being of communities and the movement of vehicles.
