Somalia’s envoy to the African Union (AU) and its ambassador to Ethiopia, Mr. Abdullahi Mohamed Warfaa, has stated that the Somali Federal Government is committed to reasserting its power in all regions of Somalia. He emphasized that Hargeisa and Berbera are integral parts of Somalia. In an interview with Aljazeera Arabic, the ambassador revealed that the Somali Federal Government is focused on rebuilding strong government institutions and strengthening the national army. This will allow the government to establish its presence in all regions of the country, from South to North. When asked about the potential impact of political tensions in Mogadishu on the Somaliland dispute, the ambassador stated that the Somali government will not allow internal issues to be exploited for foreign interests or plans to divide the country. He also noted that there are foreign entities who seek to take advantage of Somalia’s problems to create chaos and division. The government is actively working to resolve internal issues and prevent external influence. The ambassador also emphasized that Somaliland is still part of the Federal Republic of Somalia. He stated that the Federal Government considers Hargeisa, Berbera, and other northern cities as Somali lands. He assured that the federal government will have a presence and administration in all parts of the country. The ambassador’s statement comes at a crucial time when discussions are ongoing about the future of the federal system, the electoral process, and the relationship between Mogadishu and Hargeisa.
