Al-Shabab militants attack Haamcaduur settlement in Galguduud province

Fierce fighting broke out between gov’t troops and Al-shabab militants in Haamcaduur settlement which is under the administration of Qaayib town in Galguduud province.

Local residents reported that the heavy fighting erupted after Al-Shabab militants launched an attack against gov’t troops based in Haamcaduur settlement.

Al-Shabab militants attacked the settlement from multiple directions according to reports.

Local residents further said that the two sides exchanged heavy gunfire which lasted for several hours.

Somali troops based in Baxdo sent reinforcements so as to prevent Al-Shabab militants that attacked the settlement.

The objective of the reinforcements was to prevent Al-Shabab militants and maintain the security of the settlement.

It is not yet clear if there are casualties. Reports say that there are casualties from both sides but the number of deaths and injuries are not confirmed as far as the fighting is concerned.

Haamcaduur is an important settlement for the overall security of Galguduud province which lies in a strategic area.

Al-shabab militants launched attacks against the Somali troops in Haamcaduur to destabilize the region.

The Somali troops in conjunction with locals conducted operations which are aimed to ensure the security which are underway in several settlements in Galguduud region.

The operations are part of an ongoing efforts which are aimed to tighten the security.

The Somali gov’t in collaboration with local residents are preoccupied with the task to strengthen the overall peace and stability in the region.

The Somali troops prevent the threat posed by the militant group of Al-Shabab which carry out attacks against the local residents and the gov’t forces.
