Yesterday, a leader belonging to the al-Qaeda-linked terrorist group Al-Shabab surrendered to the Southwest State Special Police Forces after a planned operation in the Deynuunay settlement over the past few days. The man, Abdilahi Ali Mohamed, is reported to have been a member of the militant group and participated in acts of violence against the local population, according to local media in the Southwest State authority. This surrender of a senior Al-Shabab leader coincides with intensified operations by the security forces to pursue and dismantle the group’s hideouts. The 11th unit of the Special Police Force, led by Commander Ayub Abdi Ibrahim, conducted the operation with the goal of maintaining security in the settlements of Southwest State. This success has encouraged other Al-Shabab leaders and fighters to surrender to the government forces and be rehabilitated for reintegration into the community. The Commander confirmed that operations will continue until overall security is restored in areas where law and order have been disrupted.
