On Monday, the Somali defense ministry announced that government troops, along with their international partners, had carried out a security operation in the Bay region near Baidoa and Daynuunay. According to the statement, the operation successfully targeted and eliminated 12 members of the militant group Al-Shabab, while also injuring several others. The ministry stated that this operation is part of the Somali government’s ongoing efforts to weaken Al-Shabab’s operational capabilities and ensure overall security in the country’s regions. It also emphasized that the government and its partners will continue to conduct operations against Al-Shabab in order to protect local communities and maintain stability in Somalia. This operation comes just two days after the Somali government announced the successful reopening of the Baidoa-Mogadishu highway, which had been closed for 14 years due to the presence of Al-Shabab. The Somali Federal government also recognized and promoted the officers and soldiers who participated in the operation to reopen the highway.
