MAKELE–The Ministry of Water resources in Somaliland signed a joint Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Makele University in Tigray region on extending a helping hand to Somaliland on water knowledge and boosting cooperation. The MOU signing ceremony took place at Makele university which is located in Tigray region and it is expected that the university will send experts that will assist the ministry of water resources ways to generate more income from the water. They have also agreed to cooperate finding water supply to Somaliland capital where majority of its population do not have access to tap water. Tigray region in Ethiopia has exploited running water during the rain season and Somaliland is trying its best to emulate what that region has accomplished. The Director General of the Water affairs ministry of Somaliland, Hon. Mohamed Yusuf Ismail is on two day official working visit to Ethiopia and has inked the deal with the university in order to export its expertise and broad knowledge on water conservation systems that will be appropriate to Somaliland.
