A Qatari delegation is paying a courtesy call to Hargeisa, the capital of Somaliland within this week. A plane carrying the delegation and a consignment of medical supplies allocated in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic is due to arrive at Egal airport in the days to come. The Qatari delegation is expected to hand over the donation of medical supplies, the first of its kind from Qatar to Somaliland National Committee in charge of the preparedness and Response against Covid-19. Qatar and Somaliland do not have diplomatic relations. It is not obvious if Somaliland has appealed to Qatar for the aid or whether Qatar has donated the aid as a gesture of good will. The medical aid will be the first of its kind that Qatar will be sending to Somaliland people in the wake of the deadly coronavirus pandemic. Diplomats indicate that aid delivered is more powerful than the diplomatic leverage. It is not clear if the two sides will begin engagement diplomatically. Somaliland is having strong cooperation with the Gulf state member of UAE.
