Somaliland suspends Taraweh & Tahajjud prayers in mosques over Covid-19 fears

The Ministry of endowment & religious affairs of Somaliland has issued an order suspending Taraweeh and Tahajjud prayers in mosques in a bid to combat the spread of coronavirus in the country. The suspension will take effect May 12, 2020. The ministry has ordered people to observe social distancing and must maintain at least a distance of one meter from each other while performing daily day prayers. It has also instructed worshipers to wear face masks while performing daily day prayers at mosques. The minister has also instructed people to carry Keffiyeh during prayers. Mr. Khalil has projected that there will be a time when people will be instructed to pray at their houses. The decision comes days after Somaliland has registered the highest number of Covid-19 cases which is spread by local transmission. The count of Covid-19 cases stand at 43 while the death toll jumped up to 5. Somaliland has put in place strict measures aimed at preventing the spread of the deadly coronavirus in the country.
