An incoming Ethiopian airline flight from Addis Ababa was scheduled to land at Hargeisa airport around 8 pm last night, but the runway lights were not working.

The pilot had notified the passengers on board that the plane could not land since the runway was dark and diverted the flight back to Addis Ababa.

The reason was that he cared for the safety of the passengers.

Somaliland authority at the airport has not so far commented on the causes of the dark runway.

Silanyo’s administration spent 4.3 million US dollars for the restoration of the airport and now planes cannot land because the light at the runway are not working.
