The African Union Commission Chairperson has expressed its growing concern that members of the African Union will rally behind Somaliland’s quest of an international recognition.

H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat the African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson has added that member states are supposed to table Somaliland case at the African Union (AU).

The chair has urged to observe unity and fight against extremism.

Kenya and Eritrean governments have showed their keenness to boost the bilateral ties with Somaliland and most believe that the opportunity of granting recognition to Somaliland will encourage many communities in Africa to seek self determination.

The US and the European Union (EU) have made their stances clear by saying that Somaliland’s recognition should be first decided by the African Union.

Somaliland recently invited former Nigerain President, Mr. Olusegun Obasanjo to Hargeisa and was tasked to push its quest of self determination with in the African Union (AU).

Somaliland broke away from Somalia in 1991 but it has not been internationally recognized by the international community.
