Somaliland: Ministry of Health says it contained an outbreak in the eastern region

HARGEISA–Somaliland ministry of health said that it contained an outbreak in Somaliland eastern district of Widhwidh that claimed dozens of lives so far.

In a joint press conference, the Director General of the ministry of health, Mohamed Abdi Hergeye and the director of the emergency situations announced that the situation is under control.

The ministry of health officials said they were monitoring the situation from the outset and sent a team to assess the needs on the ground.

Dr. Heregeye said medical supplies were sent to Widhwidh immediately from the capital and neighboring cities of Buhodle and Lasanod.

The ministry officials, however, came short of disclosing the sicknesses that have affected over 2000 people and killed tens so far.

Dr. Hergeye named three illnesses without clarifying if they are affecting people simultaneously. They are pneumonia, fever and diarrhea.

The health ministry officials maintained that cases of the illnesses are decreasing in Widhwidh district.
