A directive issued by the ministry of Energy and Minerals in which the Director General, Shu’ab Osman Mohamud signed has suspended the transportation of sand for construction buildings in Djibouti.

The directive stated that it completely suspended the transportation of sand outside of Salal province.

The directive informed officials that they have to enforce the suspension until further notice from the ministry of energy and minerals.

The Ministry of Energy did not give further details for the reasons that led to the suspension of Sand transported to Djibouti and used building constructed in Djibouti.

Previous administrations in Somaliland entered into agreement with Djibouti to use and transport sand for construction from Salal province.

Djibouti also use water tankers that transport potable water from wells in Somaliland.

The current President of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi Irro reiterated that his administration will normalize ties between Djibouti and Somaliland but the relationship remains strained after Djibouti was furious over the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that Ethiopia and Somaliland entered into agreement.
