Somalia’s main opposition groups on Saturday said that it will not recognize recent parliamentary votes held in a number of regional states, citing allegations of widespread for voter fraud and manipulation.

A number of candidates were forced to withdraw the election or blocked from running for parliament seats in an attempt by regional states to ensure that their allies win most of the positions that are up for grabs.

The council of presidential candidates said in a statement that all of the procedures for the Lower House of Parliament had not been followed.

The Council further said that it will continue the meetings and will work in the best possible to make sure that credible, free and fair elections take place in the country.
