Somalia’s Electoral Commission Fixes a date for holding Local Council Elections

Somalia’s National Independent Electoral Commission on Friday revealed that the first one man one vote local council elections will be scheduled to be held in June, 2025.

The Commission Chairman, Ahmed Hassan, announced that the voter registration exercise will commence in districts and surrounding areas.

He stated that the electoral staff were trained and the deployment of electoral equipment is ready.

It is two months from the date that the Electoral Commission fixed for holding local council elections in Somalia.

Two Federal Member States namely Puntland and Jubaland cut working ties with the Somali Federal Gov’t.
It is not known how the Somali gov’t will hold elections in these regions.

The United Nations which supports Somalia when it comes to holding local elections is currently working to bring the Federal Members State leaders to attend the Consultative Forum which scheduled to take place in April this year.
