Somalia’s ambassador to Egypt dies of Covid-19

The ambassador of Somalia to Egypt and the Arab League died of the novel coronavirus on Sunday, official statement confirmed.

The diplomat was admitted into hospital last week and later tested positive for Covid-19 pandemic.

Somali PM said: ” My deepest condolences to the Somali people and the family of the ambassador to Egypt and the Arab League, Abdikani Muhumed Wa’ays. We will remember his long standing service to the country. May Allah have mercy on him,”

The diplomat has been battling with diabetes for quite a long time.

He served in various capacities in the foreign affairs docket since the 1970s.

Wa’ays becomes the second high profile Somali to die of COVID19. Former prime minister succumbed to the disease in London last month.
