The Danab Commandos, in collaboration with the Somali National Army (SNA), conducted operations on Friday in settlements under the authority of Mahaas district in the Hiiraan region. In a statement released last night, the Command reported that the operation was carried out in Adiimo and Dhaaye-Dhebe settlements on the outskirts of Mahaas district. The operation, based on intelligence reports, targeted Al-Shabab fighters and resulted in the destruction of landmines and IEDs that were intended to harm the Somali population. The Danab Commandos, working alongside the SNA, have successfully ensured the security of these areas, and the locals have warmly welcomed the operations. The Command confirmed that their efforts to eliminate Al-Shabab from settlements under the jurisdiction of Mahaas district will continue. In recent days, airstrikes have also been conducted in settlements under the authority of Mahaas in the east of Hiiraan province. The most recent airstrike took place in Waabweyn settlement on Thursday, which lies on the road connecting Beledweyne and Mahaas. These airstrikes are intended to support the military soldiers and local defense forces, known as Ma’awisley, who are cautiously advancing towards Mahaas. The allied troops aim to bring Mahaas under government control after Al-Shabab launched a large-scale assault on July 27, 2025, and captured it.
