Somali troops and local Ma’awisley forces utterly defeated Al-Shabab militants who launched a pre-dawn attack on military bases housing Somali National Army (SNA) in Wargaadhi settlement in Middle Shabelle province.
According to an official statement from the Somali Military Command, it has confirmed that many Al-shabab fighters who carried out the attack were killed in the fighting.
The Commander of the Ground Forces of Somali National Army (SNA) General Sahal Abdilahi Omar who was among the Commanders leading the fighting told the media that the Somali troops defeated Al-Shabab fighters.
He confirmed that the Somali troops are currently in control of Wargaadhi settlement and went on to say that the brave Somali troops taught a lesson to the militant group.
The Force Commander of the 18th Battalion of Gorgor troops, Lieutenant Mohamed Ibrahim Intarfeer, who is currently based in Wargaadhi settlement in Middle Shabelle province has told the media that the gov’t troops are in full control of the settlement.
He strongly repudiated Al-Shabab’s claims that its fighters have taken over Wargaadhi.
Reports disseminated by Al-Shabab affiliated media broadcasted that Al-Shabab fighters took over Wargaadhi settlement and refuted the claims of Somali Military Command which says that its troops are in control of Wargaadhi.
The Force Commander of the 18th Battalion of Gorgor troops Mohamed Ibrahim Intarfeer who gave an interview to the state-run media has told that the Somali troops have inflicted heavy casualties on Al-Shabab militants that attacked Wargaadhi.
He said: “ The Somali troops did not withdraw from the settlement, but the Khawaarij carried out pre-dawn hit and run attack. The Somali troops inflicted heavy casualties on the militant group. We should stop the false news from the public which claim that the Somali troops lost control of the settlement.”
The settlement where the fighting occurred it is a crucial Military Command where operations which area aimed to flush out Al-Shabab militants from Central Somalia are overseen.
