Somali Gov’t confirms the death of Al-shabab leader who was responsible for attacks in Mogadishu

The Somali Federal Gov’t particularly the ministry of information, culture and tourism on Tuesday confirmed the death of Abas Mohamed Hool, who was one of the senior Al-Shabab leaders who was responsible for the attacks that the militant group of Al-shabab carry out in Banadir and the two Shabelle provinces. The Al-Shabab leader named Abas Hool later succumbed to the injuries that he sustained after the Somali National Army (SNA) conducted a planned operation. The serious injuries he sustained led him to get infected with other diseases in which he eventually succumbed to death.

He joined the militant group of Al-Shabab in 2007, and directly involved barbaric attacks which targeted the residents in Mogadishu, Somalia’s capital. He was among one of the senior Al-Shabab leaders that is included in the most-wanted list of the Somali National Army (SNA) and the country’s security agencies. The statement went on to say that the Somali Federal Gov’t reminds once again that they cannot be a fugitive from the justice and the Somali army-those Al-Shabab leaders who are accustomed to commit atrocities from the Somali populace.

The Somali National Army (SNA) in conjunction with Ma’awisley local defense forces carried a planned operation for the past hours in the Huad area in El-Dheere settlement which lies in the border between Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle provinces. A statement from the Somali Federal Gov’t said that the operation was airstrikes as well as ground offensives which targeted Al-Shabab’s hideouts. It is pointed out that Al-Shabab fighters and leaders were killed in the operation, and Al-Shabab hideouts were dismantled.

The statement further added that many Al-Shabab fighters and leaders were killed. The statement stated that the operation was jointly carried out by the Somali National Army (SNA) in conjunction with int’l partners.

The statement from the Somali Gov’t has not confirmed the number of Al-Shabab fighters killed in the operation which took place in El-Dheere settlement which lies in the border between Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle provinces. The operations which included airstrikes and ground assaults are intended to eradicate the militant group of Al-shabab from the country.
