The spokesman of the ministry of defense, Abuukar Mohamed has provided details of the casualties inflicted on Al-shabab militants after the group launched attacks on settlements in Hiiraan region which lie in the border between Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle regions.
The spokesman said that the Somali National Army (SNA) backwed by local defense forces inflicted heavy defeat on Al-shabab militants that conducted raids.
He pointed out that many Al-shabab fighters including leaders were killed in the assault.
He said: “The operation was planned. Al-Shabab militants attempted to attack the Somali National Army (SNA) and local defense forces. The attack was prevented by the allied forces. They inflicted heavy defeat on the militant group of AL-shabab. We have confirmed that more than 30 Al-Shabab corpses were found in the forests of the settlements where the attacks occurred. The allied forces killed 20 Al-Shabab fighters previously. The number of Al-shabab fighters killed today and yesterday in the attack is 50.”
The settlements that the attacks occurred in which the allied forces inflicted heavy casualties are Muqliga Ali, CeelHareeri, Hareeri Madobe, Garas Magan and other settlements that lie in the border between Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle provinces.
The fighting that ensued between Somali troops backed by local defense forces and Al-shabab militants intensified in the past weeks.
