It is incomprehensible and equally impossible to envision a situation whereby the demarcated 5 Somali national borders by the colonial administrations during the scramble for Africa shall have that of Somaliland only be redesigned on tribal lines. The sentiments were underpinned by The President of the Republic of Somaliland, His Excellency Muse Bihi Abdi, during a brief address on the occasion of Eid ul Fitr celebrations where he joined a massive congregational prayers at the Hargeisa Grand Mosque on Friday that was being observed all over the Islamic world. The Head of State expressed how he was perturbed that such an idea of dismembering Somaliland, that cannot even be fathomed, be even mooted. Once again he called for peaceful stability to prevail and underlined the importance of the Islamic people to unite their hearts and minds and cooperate among themselves.
He said, “The scholars told us that the Islamic people should agree from the heart, and Islam is a house that is built and stand upon stone and if one falls, the others crumble, hence it is our duty as Muslims to cooperate with each other.” On the conflict in Las Anod city, he reminded the nation that he has always been calling for peace and was doing so again for the umpteenth time. He said that since the onset of the crisis to date, Somaliland stands for peaceful stability and prays that that calmness and harmonious setting returns. He urged those funneling and perpetrating the crisis to desist from further degrading the situation and opt for peaceful stability. He noted that it was natural to reconcile after conflicts and urged for wisdom to prevail. He reminded Somalilanders that this was about the eighth time that he was appealing for peace. The president said that it is never possible to establish a new tribal border and abolish the international border of the Republic of Somaliland, which is known to all.
“This is the seventh or eighth time that I have called for peace, and the people who are fueling the conflict that reconciling after conflicts is natural and peace can be established”, he said. “It is not possible that the five Somali states who were subdivided by colonialists will now see the border of Somaliland being changed on tribal whims”, he categorically said. The government submitted the evidence of Al Shabaab, Puntland and Somalia fighting in Las Anod to the Security Council.
