Somalia’s president Mohamed Abdilahi Farmajo has appointed Ahmed Moalin Hassan, as the new director general of the Somali civil aviation authority. Hassan was previously the acting director general but has now been promoted to this position on permanent basis. Hassan has an extensive background on civil aviation dating back to 1991 when he graduated fro the Somali Civil Aviation Institute in Mogadishu prior to Somalia descending into state of chaos following the ousting of junta leader, Said Barre who was overthrown in a popular armed revolt in 1991 from power. The announcement comes after President Farmajo signed the civil aviation act into law. Somalia’s parliament passed the legislation.
