One Ethiopian National Killed in Soweto, MFA advises to take precautionary action

One Ethiopian national was killed and another injured in the anti-immigrant violence in Soweto, South Africa, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia (MFA).

The injured Ethiopian is receiving medical treatment, the Ministry said.

Ethiopian embassy in Pretoria yesterday advised Ethiopian nationals who live in Soweto and its environs to take the necessary precaution.

The embassy further said it was working to ensure safety of Ethiopians in South Africa.

It also advised them to use telephone numbers 0123462110 and 0123462947 to get additional information from the embassy.

According to the embassy, properties belonged to Ethiopian nationals were attacked since yesterday afternoon.

“We have informed the incident to South African government and are following the situation closely,” the embassy said in a statement sent to FBC today.

The Embassy also advised Ethiopian nationals to dial using telephone number 0123462110 and 0123462947 to get additional information.
