The National Election Commission (NEC) has warned government officials, political parties and electoral agents to stay away from spreading election results without NEC’s consent. This comes at a time when Somaliland people are eagerly anticipating the announcement of the preliminary outcome for the local government and parliamentary elections. NEC said that all preliminary results will be announced at the district, provincial and national levels, and no other than NEC reserves the right to relay the outcome to Somaliland populace. Those who infringe the electoral law will be prosecuted as stated by NEC. NEC’s stern warning coincides at a time when documents indicating provincial results of some electoral districts were widely circulated in social media platforms. NEC chairman declared that the results will be out on Wednesday.
