The National Dialogue which was underway for the past four days was warped up yesterday in Mogadishu, Somalia’s capital. The meeting was officially launched by the incumbent Somali President, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on last Monday and saw the attendance of gov’t officials, politicians, and the political parties that the National Electoral Commission registered.
During the Meeting, issues that were high on the agenda of the talks include unity, reconciliation, security, completion of the constitution, the fight against Al-Shabab and the election. The Communique issued from the meeting was that it called on the resumption of the stalled dialogue between Somalia and Somaliland, and to unite against any attempts to divide the country.
The officials in attendance of the meeting agreed upon to continue the fight against the militant group of Al-Shabab and ISIS while supporting the Somali National Army (SNA) and the local defense forces.
During the meeting, it is also agreed upon that the completion of the constitution is a national duty a priority. They called to complete when it comes to laws on federalism and the constitution.
They also agreed on not to return to indirect elections and emulating the Somaliland and Puntland. They called on to continue the negotiations in order to reach a comprehensive agreement that will be broad based in regard to Jubaland, Puntland, parliament and the presidential elections.
Finally, it was stated in the communique that the national dialogue will continue and try to each out the opposition figures who are in attendance in order to complete the dialogue which is aimed to complete the national agendas where Somalis decide and will be devoid from foreign meddling.
