The Speaker of the Lower of the Somali Federal Parliament, Hon. Sheikh Adan Moahmud Nur alias Madobe, held a meeting in Mogadishu last night with the Speaker of the Upper House of Parliament, Hon. Abdi Hashi Abdilahi.
The two sides discussed the general situation in the country particularly the task of the parliament. They reached a crucial decision pertaining to the role of the members of the parliament of the two Chambers while the country is at a critical juncture in regard to the elections.
The meeting took place at the residential house of the Upper House of Parliament in Mogadishu. They focused on to fully cooperate when it comes to formulating vital laws that are necessary for the state-building in the country in order to overcome the major obstacles.
They also agreed upon to strengthen the working cooperation between the two Chambers of the Parliament, and to work towards passing the key laws during the upcoming sessions.
They also promised to hold further meetings to share vital information since there is a close working relationship between the parliament chambers. The meeting comes at a time when there is a political standoff in which Villa Somalia and the opposition politicians are locked horns.
The bone of the contention is that the incumbent Somali President, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is adamant to hold one-man one vote in the country which the opposition politicians strongly oppose.
The parliament returned from recess and will take steps pertaining to the upcoming elections. The parliament previously passed laws in regard to one-man one vote, and amendments were made to the constitution.
