Addis Ababa, September 3, 2018 –Civil construction workers at the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) project have returned to work after days of strike.
The workers, who had been on strike for days to ask for better work benefits, started work yesterday following the agreement reached with contractor of the project, Misker Negash, external relations director of the Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP), told FBC today.
The workers, hired by Italy’s Salini contractor, engaged in the strike for days to ask for a pay rise and more work benefits.
However, following the discussion held between Dr Engineer Abrham Belay, CEO of EEP, the workers agreed to return to work, he said.
