Somalia’s President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo held phone talks with the emir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani during which the two leaders discussed bilateral relations, State TV reported on Wednesday.
It comes amid an escalating power fight between Farmajo and his Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble over alleged attempts by the incumbent President to sweep his vetted allies to victory in ongoing parliamentary polls. Last month, the Premier accused his rival of an attempted coup after presidential guards briefly took over his office shortly after he was suspended over an alleged theft of public land.
Qatar News Agency reported on Wednesday that the Gulf country’s leader Tamim bin Hamad held a phone conversation with Somalia’s embattled President as Qatar’s allies in Somalia face uncertainty during the ongoing parliamentary elections.
“During the phone call which HH the Amir received from HE the Somali President, the two sides reviewed the bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries and prospects for enhancing them, in addition to the latest developments in Somalia,” Qatar News Agency (QNA) said.
