EU, Somalia & AUSSOM hold a joint military exercise in Mogadishu

The European Union in collaboration with the Somali National Army (SNA), and the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) have wrapped up a military exercise dubbed Green Shield.

The military exercise was held at General Dhagabadan Training Centre in Mogadishu, Somalia’s capital. This was a cooperation among Somalia, the European Union and AUSSOM, and for the first time participated joint security military exercise.

The objective behind the military drill is to prepare for difficult security situations like landmine blasts that are planted on roads and attacks that took place in remote areas. This indicates that there is an enhanced working cooperation between the int’l partners and the security agencies in Somalia.

This will strengthen the professionalism and the competence of the Somali National Army (SNA). The military exercise was not only a training but it also conveys a clear message when it comes to the achievements are made and to share the system of work.

A person who attended the military drill said that we did not train in Somalia but we trained with Somalis, and that makes the difference.

The European Union told that the cooperation represents the hope that the security agencies in Somalia will be robust and resilient; the peace will be from inside the country, and the security in Somalia will be maintained by professional Somali troops while in collaboration with int’l partners who are loyal to Somalia.
