The Ministry of foreign affairs of the republic of Ethiopia has said that Ethiopia does not recognize Somaliland enclave as an independent state.

The spokesman of the MFA, Mr. Nebiyat Getachew, has told the Somali BBC services that Ethiopia acknowledges that Somaliland and Puntland are part and parcel of the administration of Somalia’s Federal Government. Mr. Nebiyat Getachew further added that Ethiopia have got an embassy in Mogadishu while there are liaison offices in Hargeisa and Garowe. There are a lot of errors in the website of ministry of foreign affairs of Ethiopia. It was just a couple of days ago when MFA posted a map which wiped Somalia off from the Horn and this was the response made by the spokesman from Ethiopia’s MFA. The posting sparked public outcry from Somalia particularly in the social media. Another posting has appeared from Ethiopia’s ministry of foreign affairs official website which has recognized Somaliland as an independent republic. The website listing the Ethiopian embassies and diplomatic missions overseas, has registered Somaliland and Puntland as an independent countries. Somaliland broke away from the rest of Somalia in 1991 but since then it has not been officially recognized by the international community. Former Somalia representative to the UN, Iid Badel said that the current Ethiopian PM, Abiy Ahmed is pursuing the policies left behind by the late deceased Ethiopian PM, Meles Zenawi which aimed at diving Somalia into territories as this is part of the aggrandizement. Ethiopia this week apologized the Somalia government over the map which erased Somalia off the Map of the Horn.
