Somaliland liaison office in Ethiopia has done a commendable job by handing over residency permits to Somaliland students who are pursuing their tertiary education in Hawasa university in neighboring country of Ethiopia. The diplomatic liaison office in Addis Ababa has also handed over to students hailing from Somaliland who are currently studying at Gondar university their student residence cards.

The students have been in Ethiopia for over the past two and half years and did not get the student residence permits. They have been compounded with lack of residence permits and have faced the prospect of withdrawing their courses at the universities. They have been told that they would pay at least 800 US dollars if they are willing to get the student residence permits. The diplomatic mission in Addis Ababa has done a great job by dropping the fine and issued residence permits for Somaliland students who were stranded in Ethiopia and were in a dilemma. The Somaliland consulate office has organized a gathering which was an awareness raising on the students to have a clear idea on how to get the students studying visa in Ethiopia.
