At least two civilians were killed and four others injured after a gunman opened fire at a business premises in the Inji market in Garowe.

According to reports on the incident, the gunman opened fire in the shoe-selling section of the Inji market, one of Garowe’s bustling commercial areas.

The gunfire resulted in two deaths and four injuries; the victims were taken to Garowe General Hospital for medical treatment.

Hospital authorities stated that one of the victims was already dead upon arrival, while the second died from blood loss despite medical efforts. They added that some of the injured remain in critical condition.

Eyewitnesses reported that prior to the shooting, an argument broke out between the gunman and other men present at the scene, which subsequently escalated into a physical altercation and gunfire.

The perpetrator reportedly fled the scene. Unverified reports also suggest that the man was under the influence of alcohol. The official reason behind this incident is not yet known. Security agencies and the Puntland administration have not yet commented on the incident.
