The Director General of Somaliland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mohamed Abdirahman Hassan, Monday, 16 March 2026, met with a group of 13 young Somalilanders who will represent the Republic of Somaliland at the annual African Youth Leadership and Diplomacy Conference in Addis Ababa.
The delegation is led by Mustafa Dayib Abdillahi, Chairman of the SONYO Umbrella (Somaliland National Youth Organization), and Ahmed Mohamed Abdi, Director of the umbrella organization.
During the meeting, Mustafa Dayib emphasized that the young participants had voluntarily committed themselves and worked hard to secure the opportunity to represent Somaliland on this important international platform, where they will engage with youth leaders from across the continent.
The SONYO leadership confirmed that the organization provided full support to enable the delegation to attend and actively participate in the conference.
The youth expressed their pride and excitement at the chance to represent Somaliland abroad. They thanked the Ministry – and especially the Director General – for the warm reception and official endorsement, and pledged to articulately present Somaliland’s cause and aspirations to all participants they meet.
Concluding the meeting, Director General Mohamed Abdirahman Hassan congratulated the young delegates on their initiative and encouraged them to serve as effective ambassadors by delivering clear, informed messages about Somaliland. He reaffirmed the Ministry’s continued support and praised SONYO for its vital role in empowering and advancing Somaliland’s youth.
