In a diplomatic engagement following Israel’s historic recognition of Somaliland, officials from the Republic of Somaliland’s Embassy in the United Kingdom visited the Embassy of the State of Israel in London today. The Somaliland delegation, led by Ambassador Hon. Said Hassan Bihi, was warmly received by Israel’s Chargé d’Affaires Mrs. Daniela Grudsky Ekstein in the UK. During the courtesy visit, the Somaliland delegation expressed sincere gratitude to Israel for its recognition of Somaliland as a sovereign state, which was formally announced on December 26, 2025 – making Israel the first UN member state to do so. The meeting featured cordial exchanges, with the Somaliland side providing a detailed briefing on the country’s rich historical heritage, longstanding stability, democratic governance, and abundant natural resources. Israeli officials expressed appreciation for the visit and the productive discussions. Both delegations concluded the meeting by reaffirming a shared commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and exploring avenues for enhanced cooperation in the future. This encounter underscores the growing diplomatic momentum between Somaliland and Israel in the wake of the December recognition, amid broader strategic developments in the Horn of Africa and Red Sea region.
