Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi Irro is scheduled to make an official visit to Israel this week, where he will meet with senior Israeli officials, according to an article by YnetNews. The report states that the visit will take place from June 15 to June 17 and aims to strengthen the diplomatic ties between Israel and Somaliland. The main objective of the visit, as reported by YnetNews, is to officially open the Somaliland embassy in Jerusalem, also known as Qudus. This will be the first Somaliland embassy established overseas. President Irro is expected to hold high-level meetings with Israel’s President Isaac Herzog and Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu. The diplomatic relationship between Israel and Somaliland has grown stronger since Israel became the first UN member state to officially recognize the Republic of Somaliland in December 2025. Since then, the two countries have exchanged embassies, with Israel appointing a non-resident ambassador to Hargeisa and Somaliland dispatching its ambassador to Jerusalem. Officials from both countries have emphasized that their cooperation is based on shared interests in security, trade, technology, and the Horn of Africa region. The Somaliland government has not officially commented on the news from YnetNews about President Irro’s visit to Israel to open the embassy in Jerusalem.
