Somaliland President and opposition leaders meet to resolve election delays

HARGEISA–President Musa Bihi received the chairmen of UCID & Wadani parties, Faisal Ali Warabe & Abdiraham Irro at his office.
This follows a prolonged political crisis caused by the estranged disagreements on the formation of electoral commission which oversees elections in the country.
In a brief statement, the presidency office said the leaders discussed the most appropriate possible time for holding elections.
The presidency added that the opposition leaders and president Bihi discussed the proposal the mediation committee the mediation that volunteered to end the prolonged deadlock.
The mediation committee had proposed the dismissal of the sitting National Election Commission and reinstating the previous NEC to lead the nation polls.
Both the gov’t and the opposition parties had declared the acceptance of the proposal.
However, the statement of the president’s office did not cite any discussion on the implementation of the committee proposal.
The opposition parties Ucid & Wadani are yet to comment on the meeting at the presidency.
