Somaliland’s Minister of Interior and Security, Abdalle Mohamed Arab; the Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mohamed Abdirahman Hassan; and the Fire Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Ahmed Mohamed Hassan (Sawaaxili), participated in the international conference of the World Alliance for Disaster Management (WADM) in Taiwan.
The international conference, attended by officials and representatives from various countries and international organizations, focused on disaster management, emergency preparedness, and strengthening international cooperation in disaster relief and public safety.
The Somaliland delegation also participated in the “Resilient Taiwan for Sustainable Democracy” forum held in Taipei, where Taiwan’s President, Lai Ching-te, announced the establishment of the World Alliance for Disaster Management (WADM).
Somaliland has become a founding member of WADM, an alliance that also includes Taiwan and 11 countries maintaining diplomatic relations with Taiwan. The alliance aims to strengthen cooperation and the exchange of expertise regarding disaster prevention and management. While the delegation was in Taiwan, Somaliland’s Minister of Interior and Security, Abdalle Mohamed Arab, also met with Taiwan’s President, Lai Ching-te, at the Presidential Office. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation, particularly in areas such as security, public safety, natural disaster management, and institutional collaboration.
The Somaliland delegation’s participation in this conference coincides with Taiwan’s efforts to enhance international cooperation on disaster management, while Somaliland is actively working to strengthen its institutional capacity to respond to emergencies and ensure public safety.
