The Somaliland Institute of Diplomacy and International Affairs (SIDIA) has officially marked a groundbreaking achievement with the graduation of its inaugural cohort of diplomats, completing an intensive five-month training program conducted entirely within the country.

The ceremony, held in Hargeisa, concluded a rigorous diplomacy course led by Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Abdirahman Dahir Aden Bakaal, and Director General Mohamed Abdirahman Hassan. Attendees included SIDIA Director Dr. Madar Abdi and Dr. Brook, the final instructor for the graduating class.

This landmark event represents the first time Somaliland has produced a systematically trained batch of diplomatic personnel through an in-country program, enhancing national staff capabilities and advancing the nation’s diplomatic services.

In his remarks, the Director General Mohamed urged the graduates to serve their country with dedication and integrity, emphasizing that their training equips them to play a vital role in implementing Somaliland’s foreign policy objectives.

The initiative underscores the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ commitment to building institutional capacity and strengthening Somaliland’s position in international affairs.

Officials hailed the graduation as a historic step toward greater self-reliance in diplomatic training and professional development.
