Somaliland Announces Millions of dollars in Agriculture Investments

The Ministry of Agricultural development yesterday announced millions of dollars of investments in the agricultural sector to boost domestic production.

The American company dubbed African Food Security is paying $ 100 million which will be intended to increase local production.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of agricultural development, the project is part of an ongoing efforts to improve local production in the agricultural sector.

The project will be implemented by African Food Security which is among major companies that operates in the agricultural development.

The implementation of the project was signed by Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed ABdilahi Irro as announced by the minister of agricultural development, Mohamud Egge Yusuf and flanked by the deputy Minister, Mukhtar Haji Mohamud Farah.

The statement issued by the ministry said that the African Food Security said that in regard to the strategic location that Somaliland lies, it will have the capability to export agricultural production to the Gulf States in the near future.

The incumbent Somaliland President recently disclosed that the current government will exert maximum efforts in boosting local production while the availability of food is one of the challenges that Somaliland populace are faced with.

Somaliland imports most of food consumed in the country from overseas while local farmers produce small production that is not enough to the population consumption.

At the same time Somaliland farmers do not receive investments, it will be hard to find water sources.
