The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Somaliland, Hon. Abdurahman Dahir Adan, held high-level talks on Thursday with a senior delegation from Taiwan’s Ocean Affairs Council and Coast Guard Administration aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation on maritime security.
The meeting, held at the Ministry’s headquarters in Hargeisa, was also attended by the Director-General of the Ministry, Mr. Mohamed Abdurahman.
During the discussions, Minister Abdurahman and the Taiwanese delegation reviewed existing collaboration in safeguarding international sea lanes and agreed to further strengthen joint efforts in maritime security, particularly in combating piracy, illegal fishing, and other transnational threats in the Gulf of Aden and wider Indian Ocean region.
Mr. Hsu Chi-Yeh, Senior Director of the Taiwan Coast Guard Administration, expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality extended by Somaliland authorities and reaffirmed Taiwan’s commitment to expanding practical cooperation in maritime domain awareness, training, and capacity-building.
The visiting delegation has spent several days in Somaliland holding working sessions with the leadership of the Somaliland Coast Guard and its Commander, Ahmed Hure, as part of ongoing technical and operational exchanges between the two sides.
Today’s meeting underscores the growing strategic partnership between Hargeisa and Taipei in the maritime domain, a vital area for both nations given their extensive coastlines and dependence on secure sea routes
