Somalia’s Ministry of Transport & Aviation announced on Thursday that it had struck a deal with airline companies to allow the resumption of local flights next week.
Transport Minister, Mohamed Omar said during a meeting with representatives from airlines that the local flights will re-commence next week but did not specify a fixed date.
The minister said that all passengers will be screened before entering the airport and after to ensure adherence to health standards in the curbing the deadly Covid-19 disease.
Somaliland imposed ban on local and int’l flights in mid-April and re-affirmed a similar order later in the month to contain the import and spread of Covid-19.
The number of COVID-19 cases in Somalia has since risen to over 2000 with close to 80 deaths.
