Somalia’s new Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre took office in a ceremony held in Mogadishu on Tuesday, days after parliament unanimously approved his appointment.

In a ceremony attended by the speakers of the Lower and Upper Houses of Parliament and other government officials, outgoing Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble handed over responsibilities to the new Premier.

Speaking during the independence anniversary of the northern regions of Somalia on Sunday, Barre promised that he will spare no effort to ensure achievements on a number of forefronts, including security.

Appointed just a few weeks ago, the new Prime Minister is expected to announce the list of cabinet within 30 days.
