The Somali Federal Government has announced that it will be sending its first airborne unit overseas in order to enhance the professionalism of the Somali National Army (SNA). General Ibrahim Mohamed Mohamud, Somalia’s Army Chief, bid farewell to the first unit of the SNA as they departed for a high-level military training abroad. He emphasized the importance of this training for the SNA, which is currently undergoing a significant recovery. General Mohamud urged the soldiers to take full advantage of the training in order to improve their military skills. He also noted that this unit will be specifically trained as paratroopers, as Somalia has recently acquired warplanes. He stated, “This is the first time that the Somali National Army has sent a unit overseas for paratrooper training. It is crucial that we make the most of this opportunity and carefully select the units that will receive this training.” General Mohamud also reminded the soldiers that this training will be challenging and will require resilience and patience.
