Somalia, China agree to deepen defense cooperation

The defense minister of the Somali Federal Gov’t, Hon. Ahmed Ma’alin Fiqi held a meeting in Mogadishu with Chinese Ambassador to Somalia, Wang Yu.

During the meeting, the two sides focused on the cooperation between China and Somalia particularly in the defense and to speed up the war against Al-Shabab which is currently underway in South and Central Somalia.

Chinese Ambassador, Wang Yu pledged that the Chinese Gov’t will play a huge role when it comes to providing trainings and military equipment to the Somali National Army (SNA) in order to succeed in maintaining the overall security in Somalia.

On his side, the Somali Defense minister, Ahmed Ma’alin Fiqi expressed deep thanks and appreciations to the Chinese gov’t for the constant support it provides to Somalia particularly in the areas of security, development and strengthening the bilateral ties between the two countries.

Finally, the meeting comes at a time when China and Somalia have good diplomatic relations which support in the security and safeguarding the sovereignty of the two nations.
