The Somali President, Mr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, travelled to Djibouti on an official working visit on Wednesday, where he is scheduled to meet with his Djiboutian counterpart, Mr. Ismail Omar Guelleh. According to Somali government officials, the high-level meeting between the two leaders will focus on strengthening bilateral ties between Djibouti and Somalia, specifically in the areas of security, economic cooperation, and political coordination. It is expected that the two leaders will discuss the current situation in the Horn of Africa and the escalating conflict in the Middle East. This is the first foreign visit for the Somali President since he officially signed the newly revised constitution, which was approved by the bicameral Somali Federal Parliament. Djibouti is a close ally to Somalia in the region and plays a significant role in ongoing efforts to strengthen security and combat Al-Shabab. Djibouti has strongly condemned Israel’s recognition of the Republic of Somaliland, stating its support for the unity and territorial sovereignty of Somalia.
