The incumbent Somali President, H.E Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud on Sunday laid the foundation stone of major infrastructure projects including a modern airport dubbed New Mogadishu Int’l Airport as well as a seaport which were implemented in Haawaay area in Middle Shabelle province.
The Head of State said that the projects will be crucial in the development and the connectivity of the country particularly the Civil Aviation sector and the infrastructure development.
He pointed out that the modern airport will provide domestic services to the Somali populace and int’l flights in Somalia. He revealed that the new projects will be implemented by a local company which demonstrates the recovery of the country and the power of the Somali populace in which they will liberate their settlements from the enemy who are hiding on one hand and rebuild the infrastructure and the beauty of the country with the other hand.
The project that the incumbent Somali President laid the foundation stone include Int’l airport, roads, hospitals and other social services. The project was announced for the first time in December, 2024. Its objective was to strengthen the infrastructure and the development in the country. If the project is realized, it will reduce the load from Adden Adde Int’l Airport in Mogadishu.
The Somali President, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud was flanked during the ceremony by Hirshabelle regional President, Ali Abdilahi Hussein, the governor and the Mayor of Mogadishu, Hassan Mohamed Hussein, the Minister of Commerce and Industry, Mohamud Adan Gesod, the State Minister of transport and civil aviation, Abdikarin Addow Ayder and the director general of the civil aviation authority in Somalia, Ahmed Ma’alin Hassan.
