Mogadishu is hosting political gatherings which will bring together former Somali leaders and the opposition politicians. The meeting will focus on the current situation in the country, and ways to find a resolution to an inclusive election that will be held in the country.
The first gathering took place in Mogadishu particularly the residence of former Somali President, Shariif Sheikh Ahmed and saw the attendance of former Prime Ministers Hon. Hassan Ali Khaire and Hon. Omar Abdirashiid Ali Sharmarke.
They discussed ways to rescue the state, and to find a resolution to the political uncertainty that the country is faced with. The leaders said that the dire situation of the country poses a threat to the state in Somalia. They called on a unified and national solution.
Another meeting which follows the previous gathering was held in Ma’alin Nuur Shrine in Mogadishu. The meeting brought together the most influential opposition figures.
The meeting was a preface to a large gathering that the opposition groups will hold in order to confront the way Villa Somalia is leading the country particularly the upcoming election.
Reports say that vital points will come out from the meeting pertaining to the political direction the country is taking while considering the transition.
The opposition groups met and held meetings in the country and outside of the country. They spoke about measures to take in order to prevent the postponement of the upcoming 2026 elections.
On the other hand, political messages were conveyed to the Somali President which informed him that he should stay away from every avenue that will cause a state of confusion. They called to find a national dialogue.
Political tension escalated for the past days while the opposition leaders and gov’t officials exchanged heated statements which shows the extent of the political stalemate in Somalia. Villa Somali strongly responded the criticisms from the opposition which heightened the political tension in the country.
